Acting can be a dangerous job, believe it or not – that’s the reason many top-paid actors and actresses employ stunt doubles to tackle their most daring feats on camera.
Here are 10 times movie stars found themselves in peril, and they are probably still thanking their lucky stars that they made it out alive!
#10. Jason Statham in The Expendables 3
While filming the movie, the brakes on Statham’s truck failed, and he drove into the Black Sea. He managed to escape and swim to shore. Good thing Statham is an experienced diver.
#9. Jaimie Alexander in Thor: The Dark World
Alexander slipped and fell down a flight of stairs, slipping a spinal disc, tearing a rhomboid muscle, chipping 11 vertebrae, and dislocating her shoulder in the process.
#8. Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger
As if taking the starring role in The Lone Ranger wasn’t dangerous enough to his career, he almost lost his life when he slipped in the saddle and was thrown over the front of his horse. The hooves came dangerously close to trampling his head.
#7. Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future Part III
In a scene where he was hanged by outlaws, Fox nearly suffocated – he even lost consciousness on set.
#6. Aaron Paul in Breaking Bad
In a stunt that involved a massive boulder rolling from the top of a car, Paul was almost crushed.
#5. Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai
Cruise was thrown off a malfunctioning mechanical horse and narrowly missed the point of another actor’s sword. It’s been estimated that he could have been seriously injured 70 times while filming fight scenes on this set.
#4. Tom Hanks in Cast Away
Hanks cut himself and, while no one worried at first, he ended up being hospitalized for fear that the wound would become badly infected and turn poisonous.
#3. Jackie Chan in Armour of God
Jackie Chan is notorious for doing his own daredevil stunts, but while filming this movie he fell 16 feet out of a tree and required surgery to remove a piece of skull embedded in his brain. Yikes!
#2. Isla Fisher in Now You See Me
Fisher plays an escape artist in the film, but she was unable to escape while trapped underwater in a trick tank. The crew thought she was acting, but, luckily, she managed to make it out in time.
#1. Kate Winslet in Titanic
Talk about terrifying – her coat got stuck in an elevator filling with water and she almost drowned!
