Should you ever find yourself in Durham, North Carolina, home of Duke University and the site of 1957’s Royal Ice Cream sit-in that kick-started a movement, maybe skip the Confederate monuments, and check out their historic “Black Wall Street,” instead:

If you’re driving a car, you should also make a stop at the “Can Opener.” If you’re driving a truck or an RV, however, I suggest you avoid it entirely:

This infamous rail bridge at the intersection of Gregson and Peabody was built over 100 years ago, which helps explain the fact that it’s about two feet lower than the usual height requirement for such a bridge.

The train company doesn’t want to re-route it, and the city doesn’t want to lower the street or build a tunnel because there’s a sewer main below it that’s as old as the bridge.

There are plenty of warning signs:

They even installed a special system into the traffic light in 2016 that detects overheight vehicles, gives drivers a red light to warn them, and gives them 30 seconds to grasp the reality of the situation:

But in the year after the installation, the bridge still claimed plenty of victims:

Turns out that the drivers of some trucks who are further back in line when the system detects them and turns the light red assume that the stoplight and all of the signs aren’t talking to them.

And the signals don’t stop trucks from turning right off of the cross street, either:

So it seems like there should be a fairly steady stream of “Can Opener” videos throughout the foreseeable future…
