Dads are the greatest, aren’t they? Of course they are – and this dad is crazy great, cause he went way above and beyond the call of duty in order to his daughter to college in the U.S.

Huang Haitao promised his daughter Huang Xinyi that he would take his daughter to college if she got in, and he refused to miss the once in a lifetime opportunity…even though the college she got into was on the other side of the planet.

Huang lives in China and his daughter was accepted to a college in Seattle. As in Washington. As in the United States. So Huang said, “Let’s go!”

The man who should win Father of the Year and his daughter set out on a 108-day, 18,641-mile car journey that took them through Russia and all the way to Western Europe. Only once the duo had gone as far as physically possible in the car (they got to England) did they fly to the U.S. But England isn’t Seattle, and they had their car shipped along behind them so they could resume their road trip and finish driving all the way to the Pacific Northwest.

This father and daughter are no strangers to adventure. Huang Xinyi once took a year of school off so she could travel across the North Pole with her dad.

Huang said, “After she goes to college, there won’t really be many opportunities in future for me to spend so much time with her. She’ll have her own life, so the least I can do is send her onto the next chapter of her life.”
