We all know cockroaches are extremely persistent and determined, but did you know fire ants are as well?
A study published this summer by researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology found that fire ants link their bodies to each other to protect their colonies under dire circumstances.
When faced with excessive water, fire ants will form structures to maintain their survival. These structures often look like a floating raft. With the devastating floods in Houston unfolding as we speak, folks on social media are sharing their encounters with these floating horror shows.
These floating rafts of fury can be assembled in as little as 100 seconds, and can last days or even weeks.
It’s an amazing feat of nature, but also literally what my nightmares are made of.
This guy’s tweet has to be the hands-down scariest, in my opinion.
I would not want to try and part that Red Sea.
