Meet the Stray Dog Who Joined a Monastery and Became a Monk

Kasper Mariusz Kaproń

Get ready to be slayed by adorable.

Are you prepared? Yes?

Good.

Then it’s time for you to meet Friar Bigoton (Friar Moustache, omg), a stray schnauzer who found his way into the Saint Francis Monastery in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He went from living on the streets to living life in his very own uniform, and all the men in the monastery are in love with the little guy. Including Friar Jorge Fernandez, who had this to say about their new mascot:

“His life is all about playing and running. Here, all of the brothers love him very much. He is a creature of God.”

Since Saint Francis is the patron saint of animals, it almost seems as if the adoption was meant to be.

Little Friar Bigoton has duties, of course, like the one he’s seen attending to in this photograph:

“Here’s Brother Carmelo preaching to the fish,” says Franciscan Kasper Mariusz Kapron.

Not only are the monks at Saint Francis thrilled with their decision to adopt the little guy, but Proyecto Narices Frias (Cold Nose Project), a local animal rescue, hopes they’ll inspire others.

“If only all the churches of our country would adopt a dog and care for him like Friar Bigoton. We are sure that the parishioners would follow his example.”

I think this is a fabulous idea. After all, the Internet can never have too many dogs wearing robes, right?
