Pretty much everyone you want to know in the world loves Harry Potter and has sorted themselves into the correct Hogwarts house accordingly (Ravenclaw pride!). When we meet other people and learn their house, it tells us something about their personality – which is exactly why this Florida animal shelter has devised a way to sort their dogs.
After all, it’s helpful to know before adopting a dog whether they’re a super smart, trick-learning Ravenclaw or a loyal-as-the-day-is-long Hufflepuff. Maybe you’re looking for a little guy with big determination, like a Slytherin dog would surely be, or a get-up-and go, adventuring Gryffindor?
You get the idea, right?
And you probably think it’s pretty much the best idea ever.
Once the dogs are sorted at Pawgwarts, they get a banner for their cage so people browsing for a new pet can pick out the one that fits them best.
“For many guests visiting our shelter, there is an instant recognition for our ‘Pawgwarts Houses,’ based on the overwhelming popularity of the book series,” says communications manager Stephen O’Neal. “People come in knowing what their personal house is and are so enthusiastic about our Potter-inspired sorting process.”
Even better? This lets the shelter avoid labeling the dogs with breeds, since there is often no way to guess accurately and labeling them certain breeds can turn off potential adopters. That’s a win for the dogs, the shelter, and all of the Potter fans looking to adopt.
If you’ve got a dog at home that you’re dying to sort, you can take the quiz they use since its up on their website. So far, it’s been taken over 30,000 times.
