Every person in America needs at least one pair of Chuck Taylors. It’s just part of the standard uniform for humans, like socks or underwear.
The classic shoe really hasn’t changed much since 1917, but now they’re getting a makeover. Converse has teamed up with GORE-TEX and Slam Jam, an Italian design firm, to create a line of Chuck Taylors that will be a little different than the classic version.
This new model will be reinforced with GORE-TEX sheathing to keep these babies waterproof.
The new Chucks are called “Hikers” and were released on December 5. They cost $150 and are part of the Converse Urban Utility line which also features a utility jacket and a military-inspired jump boot. Here’s a little-known fact you can use at your next dinner party to impress your friends: when Converse was established in 1908, they made winterized rubber boots. So this is kind of like coming full circle, right? Right.
