A desk calendar is one of the things my mother wrapped for my dad every Christmas my entire life. He preferred Dilbert, for a while, and then Pearls Before Swine. Now he’s retired…but he still gets one. My uncle was a truck driver before he retired, and yet somehow asked for (and received) a calendar of his own each Christmas. When I starting working, there was one dutifully wrapped for me, too.
Which may sound, I don’t know, kind of boring? But the truth is, I loved those calendars. I loved reading the comic or fun fact or bit of trivia every day because it gave me a little something to look forward to as I sat down behind that desk and got ready for another day of work.
