Declawing cats for non-medical reasons is either illegal or forbidden in Australia, Brazil, Israel, New Zealand, Japan, and most of Europe. The procedure wasn’t officially outlawed in the UK until 2006, but even before then it was so uncommon that most people had never seen a declawed cat. Source
