After being shot by poachers in Africa, a 30-year-old elephant named Ben ventured uphill to a nearby safari lodge and somehow knew to patiently wait the 6 hours it took for a vet to arrive and treat his injuries. Even after being shot by humans, Ben wandered around with a large wound in his shoulder and turned to humans for help instead of instinctually staying on level ground near a water source. Source
