In 1931, female professional pitcher Jackie Mitchell struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, back to back, in just 7 pitches. Ruth was furious, yelled at the umpire, kicked the dirt, threw his bat, told a newspaper that women are ‘too delicate for baseball,’ and Mitchell’s contract was voided.
