In 2017, a 3,000-year-old Egyptian statue was found buried under mud in the Cairo slum Matariya. The site was once home to a sacred temple built by Ramses II, who the giant statue is thought to represent. Because he was such a powerful ruler and most of the temple is destroyed, it is considered one of the most important discoveries to ever be made. Source
