Jiminy Cricket was created because Walt Disney thought Pinocchio seemed too helpless in the film’s early stages. He wanted a character to help guide Pinocchio to the right decisions, so the team designed a realistic cricket with antennae and toothed legs- but Disney wanted something more likable, so the animator made him a ‘little man with an egg head and no ears.
