king-arthurs-legendary-sword-in-the-stone

King Arthur’s legendary ‘sword in the stone’ might actually exist– in Italy. In the 12th century, a pious Italian knight who’d abandoned his ruthless ways had religious visions and allegedly pushed his sword into the stone ground, which “yielded like butter.” A chapel was built around the sword, which has long been thought a fake, but recent studies show it is indeed from the 12th century.
