The inventor, Elizabeth Magie, believed in a system of shared land value and designed the game as a teaching tool to address the problems and immorality of land monopolies – but she only made about $500 off of her game because some guy stole her idea, sold it to Parker Brothers, and kept all the royalties for himself.
