I’ve driven through Montana once and I spent a night in Butte, but that’s the extent of my experiences in that MASSIVE state that borders Canada.

And speaking of Canada, a petition has emerged online that is calling for the United States to sell Montana to Canada for $1 trillion to help pay off America’s huge debt.

The petition started off as kind of a joke on Reddit but it took on a life of its own and as of this writing it has been signed over 19,000 times.

The petition says: “We have too much debt and Montana is useless. Just tell them it has beavers or something.”

Sounds like a plan, eh?

And here are some of the responses to the petition gaining traction online.

I mean… why not sell Montana, right?

And some more folks weighed in on this important topic.

Or maybe not…

Probably not a good idea if you happen to LIVE in Montana, but…

And then there was this very important question that was talked about on Twitter.

What do you think? We especially want to hear from the folks who actually live in Montana.

I mean, yeah, it’s a joke… but what about selling off a PRIME chunk of land to pay off some debt? Is that the worst idea in the world?
