Design fails that deserve the internet’s shame

We trust designers to make good choices. We want to look at a sign and think, yes that makes sense. We want our roads to be functional and our toilets to look clean.

All of that is in the hands of designers. Most of the time, designers do their jobs well, but sometimes, they just aren’t up to the task. Keep reading to see some designers who really should go back to design school (if they ever went there in the first place).

These Seals Never Open

The floppy plastic bit on this sealed vitamin container is supposed to make the thing easy to open.

These things never work, though. You always end up ripping the paper and having to pierce the thing with a knife.

How Are The Bikes Supposed To Pass?

Whoever designed this bike path decided it would be a good idea to put a concrete blockade right in the middle of it.

How are the bikes supposed to get through?

A Sharp Drop

You better look where you step when you walk into this house because those stairs are right up against the door.

How many people do you think have fallen down those stairs?

A Dirty-Looking Toilet

This toilet isn’t actually dirty. Nobody missed in a big way while they were recovering from a rough night. Those are flowers and they’re supposed to be pretty.

Mistakes were made.

That Pocket Is Too Small

Is this the jeans designer’s fault or the phone designer’s fault? I’m going to blame whoever it was who designed these jeans.

In fact, let’s get better pockets on all women’s jeans.

An Unfortunate Pattern

It looks like this mattress is horribly stained, while in reality, it’s just the pattern on the fabric.

Whoever thought that this was a good design idea was sorely mistaken.

Right In The Corner

Whoever put up these billboards clearly didn’t anticipate how they would look in a corner.

The woman in the middle kind of looks like an alien now. It’s not a good look.

The Easiest Maze In The World

The person who designed this maze didn’t make it very hard.

The first rule of making a maze is not to put the entrance and the exit so close together.

That’s A Small Dog Or A Big Kid

If you’ve ever seen a Saint Bernard in real life, you know that those dogs are huge. They are way bigger than a small child.

There’s no way that a real Saint Bernard would be shorter than this girl’s hips.

It’s Supposed To Say “Heroes”

This mug is supposed to say “heroes,” but because of the flower stems going right through the words, it looks more like it says “herbes.”

Is “herbes” even a word?

Another Mug Mishap

I’m pretty sure that it’s “New York” and not “Nev York.”

This mug doesn’t make any sense. Why not just choose a city that has a V in it? How about Vienna?

A Carpeted Bathtub

I don’t know who thought it would be a good idea to put carpet in a bathroom, let alone on a bathtub.

At this point, you’re just asking for mold.

Not Much Of A Ramp

This bank does have a ramp installed, but it’s a very thin ramp, and right now it’s being obstructed by the open door.

I think even if the door was closed, this ramp wouldn’t be functional.

It’s Not Edible

Why would this company make a bag of bubbles that looks exactly like a puree snack pack?

It’s like they’re just asking kids to swallow a whole bunch of soap.

What Does This Even Say?

This sign is supposed to say “beach,” but the letters are all mixed up.

The person who made this “art piece” could have easily put all of the letters in order.

Stairs On Both Sides

Someone tried to be really thoughtful by making this bridge wheelchair- and stroller-friendly, but they forgot about the steps on either side of the bridge.

It seems like a lot of wasted effort.

Stay Away From Here

If you have kids, you would have no choice but to stay away from this area. The sign says ‘people are eating kids,’ so why would you go?

Jokes aside, what does this message really mean? If you try and decode it, you’ll end up hurting your head.

That’s Not How It Works

This family tree just made it look like a brother and sister got together and conceived a dog.

Uh, that is definitely not how mammals work. Who made this graphic?

Use The Hand Brake…With Your Foot

The person who made this sign went out of their way to find a graphic to put on it, but they didn’t take the time to make sure that the graphic matched the words on the sign.

This is an accident waiting to happen.

Stairway To… Absolutely Nowhere

This looks like the pathway that I continue taking in life – the pointless one. All jokes aside, what is the point of this little stairwell?

Is it used for mini-concerts, or perhaps it leads to a secret room beyond the walls like in Harry Potter! I’m on my way, Daniel Radcliffe!

Please Don’t Injure Your Children

Honda, is everything okay at home? Are you feeling alright?

Friendly reminder that your kids are not Pizza Hut cinnastick pullaparts and you should not literally pull your kids apart.

Too Close For Comfort

Did the person who designed the layout of this bathroom not understand public washroom etiquette or the dimensions of a typical human?

Either way, this just isn’t right… Stand in line and wait your turn.

You’re reading this book, and you get to the part with the most important information for your upcoming test. The knowledge is there, but you have to listen to a recording.

Did they forget this was a book and not the internet? Someone probably copied and pasted from their website.

A Bed Frame Designed By Satan Himself

This furniture designer was an absolute monster who decided that they wanted to inflict pain on everyone who buys this bed frame.

Imagine how many toes or shins have been stubbed on that frame.

Revenge Plates

If you’re ever mad at your spouse, buy these plates.

Then watch them spend 20 minutes trying to clean the dishes before they realize that it’s actually just the design.

The Worst Of Both Worlds

“The best of both worlds” will give you nightmares both while you’re sleeping and while you’re awake.

Whoever designed this should have their computer taking away from them… No more Photoshop for you sir.

When Life Gives You Lemons

When life gives you lemons, make… orange juice? Apparently this grocery store thinks that orange juice isn’t zesty enough.

Might as well toss some lime juice in there as well to get as much citrus as possible.

That Mouthwatering Soap Taste
