The pet shelter contacted Rocket News after the story was first published in 2015 to say that the expiration dates are only deadlines for adoption, and that they do not euthanize any of the animals featured on their page. Pet Home is simply a website that matches people with animals and not an animal shelter.

So, it still stands to reason that if these pets aren’t adopted by the cut-off, that something happens at the animal shelter. They do confirm that people can no longer apply to adopt after that date. They also mention on the site that animals who are not adopted are often euthanized.

You do that math.
