Advertising played to the ideals, gender roles, and expectations of the masses – and in the 1950s and 1960s in America, that meant a lot of sexist ads aimed at manly men and the women who adored (and served) them.
Budweiser was no different, but in the light of the modern age – and the modern woman and the modern relationship – they’ve gone back and revised some of their more sexist ads to age with the times.
They released them in honor of International Women’s Day, and I’ve gotta say, if anything could convince me to pop open a Budweiser, these new ads would be it.
1956 – Because the best way to compliment yourself is to pair a beer for him with your cooking, of course.
2019 – I mean, only if she wants it all.
1958 – What is that look on his face, though?!
2019 – Either of us could use that hammer but we’ve hired someone to do it, instead. Here’s pizza.
1962 – Smells like pot roast with a pinch of rat poison.
2019 – Is she sharing that takeout with a date? Who cares!
