After An Interview, An Email Called This Applicant “Not That Cute”

As if applying and interviewing for jobs isn’t hard enough, in the age of technology, apparently applicants also have to worry about whether or not their potential employer thinks they’re cute enough to hire.

Seriously.

Gracie Lorincz is a recent graduate from Michigan and applied to be a brand representative at Ava Lane Boutique, a clothing store. She was surprised to get an email after her application was received, but not as shocked as she was once she read the contents – which were clearly not meant for her eyes.

She shared the awkward contents of the email on her TikTok and the video has amassed 2M views and over 300k likes of support (no one is saying they agree).

“This girl is fresh out of college (Hope College) and not that cute. She applied to the sales model position. Are you sure you want me to interview her?”

The email was meant for the owner Chuck’s wife, Laura, but was somehow sent to Gracie instead.

Gracie shared that she was hurt by the statement, and also commented that clearly the company’s motto, “Beauty through confidence,” might be a bunch of b.s.

Chuck and Laura did a Facebook live to apologize for what he said in the email (though not very well).

“I didn’t feel she was that cute. So I didn’t know if I wanted to proceed with an interview. I don’t know why I said that, but I did, and I am very sorry for saying that.”

His wife added that Gracie had “asked her followers to contact us, to threaten our family, the families who work here,” and that they were scared and suffering because of it.

Even though some of Gracie’s followers seem to have taken things too far, she did not ask anyone to do anything as far as revenge – she simply wanted to call out the behavior and to encourage other girls to stand up for themselves.

She’s added comments on the video asking people to stop contacting the man and his family, that she didn’t want anyone to bother them.

Gosh, y’all. I have no idea how I would have handled this situation but I’m pretty sure I would have cried.

Let’s all work toward a world where we don’t imagine our subjective opinion of someone else’s looks really matters. Like, at all.

Sound good?
