There are a lot of bands that I loved when I was younger that are still at it that are just flat-out painful these days…sorry but it’s the truth.
I give them credit for keeping it going, but jeez…it ain’t pretty.
What do you think used to be great but is now really bad?

“I used to love a good conspiracy theory – UFO cover ups and so forth.
But now it’s just these redneck crazies crowding into the most outlandish s**t ones like microchips and lizard people.”

“Portland f**king Oregon.
Had a friend who rented an entire floor in a warehouse in what used to be the Brewery Blocks (now Pearl) for 400 in 1995. You had a perfect mix of affordable living and true weird city life that allowed for a vibrant arts & music scene.
When you price out the weirdos, it’s a little funny to make weirdness the selling point. It’s like San Francisco with the whole Haight/Ashbury counterculture angle.
Those days are long gone. I miss Big Bang Warehouse, X-Ray, Satyricon, La Luna, Ozone, The City, 24 Hour Church of Elvis, and so many other places that made Portland great.”
3. All the rage.
“Streaming services online.
Netflix was op back in the day, now you have to have 15 different services if you want to watch all your shows.”
4. Terrible right now.
“Politics.
It was never great, but there’s no room for two people with different views to actually talk.
It’s not a sports team, why is everybody so entrenched and angry.”

“Burger King was great in the 1980s.
Now it’s the fast food equivalent of Gary, Indiana.”

“The History Channel.
I used to watch it in the 2000s.
Now it’s all swamp people and aliens.”

“Green Day.
Didn’t even bother with their last album.
Maybe it’s just me but it feels less like Green Day and more like Billie Joe’s experimentation hour.”
8. Lost its edge.
“NYC.
It used to be a place for artists and stuff, now it’s just a cookie cutter hedge fund d**che town.”
9. The decline.
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The decline in quality after season 10 has just been staggering.
Should have stopped while they were ahead.”
10. Old school.
“The first Real World was actually pretty good.
All the people actually had real jobs and aspirations. Not just running a frozen yogurt shop or something.
Kevin became editor of Vibe Magazine, Heather B. was down with Boogie Down productions/KRS-ONE and had a song or two, Becky went to NYU film school, Eric had a decent modeling career, and Julie was a legit southern belle, trying to be a dancer of some sort, and was her first time to NYC.
Also, OG, Beavis and Butthead.”
11. Pretty bad.
“News media, not saying “great” but it used to function.
It used to be news, now its news buffered by opinion pieces and debates between whoever they can scrape up and pass off as an “expert”.”

“Entering the workforce and saving up.
Never was great in my lifetime, but I’ve heard stories of people buying their first house after like 2 years of saving.
That’s just a fantasy these days.”

“Cars. They used to be awesome. Affordable. And fixable.
Now they’re cheap and highly overpriced.
They’re faster than they used to be maybe but the cost isn’t worth the parts.
And they fail so easily.”

“Cracked.com.
I used to read every new article Cracked put out. Somewhere along the line the quality started dipping and and the site’s ad cancer went through the roof.
I haven’t been on there in years now.”
15. Do you remember?
“Nickelodeon.
Just finished watching The Orange Years on Hulu, really great documentary on early/90s Nickelodeon.
Brought back a lot of great memories I have of those simpler times.”
16. Docs.
“Doc Martens.
They sold the trademark to a Chinese company and changed the real product to Solevair.
I’ve had my handmade in England ones for I think 6 years now and was wearing them daily. Except for the sole (just worn down) they’re still good boots.
My husband has bought 2 pairs over the last 2 years and both of them are… well broken!”
17. Tools.
“Craftsman.
They used to be AMAZING. They were sold off awhile ago. I still have a ton of tools by them that are old as hell but barely have a scuff marks on them.
Hell, I have two lawnmowers I still use on a regular basis that I got from my grandfather and they were bought in the late 60’s or early 70’s! The entire motor and everything is original on it.
Nowadays, I wouldn’t buy a step stool from them.”
18. All downhill.
“OKCupid.
Used to be an innovative dating site with a multitude of features that distinguished it from its competitors.
Everything went downhill when the Match group bought it.”
19. Bummer.
“The Internet in general.
I used to be able to search Google for a subject and then get a list of reliable websites to read from.
Now it’s 99% c**p infomercials/ad ridden sites that all want to sell me s**t I don’t need.”
20. No fun.
“Geocaching.
A few years ago it used to be amazing good fun, but the app is basically k**ling it because you have to pay for everything.”
21. Crazy market.
“The search to buy your first home used to be exciting and filled with choices.
Now it’s “take it or leave it” overpriced homes you can’t afford, in a terrible neighborhood.
Or continue paying your super high rent.”
22. Not so glamorous anymore.
“Flying.
From the incredible shrinking seat, crazy people, Covid, no food, baggage fees, carry on fees to questions about planes safety.”
23. The great outdoors?
“Being able to go outside.
Maybe not so much in the cities, but in the suburbs there was all these open fields and forests to go into, you could stay out till the sun went down just riding your bike. Now those fields and forests are paved over and turned into a strip mall. Those big areas with play grounds? Bulldozed for some sh**ty half a**ed jungle gym.
Can’t go out on the streets no more. Kids get the cops called on them constantly. So much more private property too.
And if you wanna go somewere that isn’t outside, you better cough up some money. Every place charges you to be there now. And not for long.”

It was so good back in the ’90s. Actual music videos, shows with artists, Unplugged, Daria, Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux, TRL, etc.
Then Pimp My Ride and Cribs were pretty fun though it was the start of reality tv style shows.”

It’s been steady downhill ever since Seth stopped writing.”
