Adorable animals trying their hardest to act tough
Trending Now
A scowl, a raised brow, maybe a little snarl—these pets put on a bossy act, but it only makes us love them more.
Whether it’s a cat giving a frosty side-eye, a dog pouting when playtime ends, or a bird flashing attitude, their “tough” expressions are just too adorable to take seriously. Those sassy looks say “stay away,” but what they really mean is “snap a photo and hand over the treats.”
This Better Be Important

This cat definitely didn’t plan for “paparazzi hour” during her nap time, thank you very much. She’s fully immersed in her self-care routine—which, let’s be real, is just napping—and you’ve just broken the sacred silence rule.
That glare you’re getting? It’s basically the feline version of sending your call straight to voicemail with a big “Do Not Disturb” sign slapped on it. Time might be money, but messing with her beauty sleep? That’s gonna cost you *extra.*
He’s Fed Up

This cat’s totally done with your shenanigans. You’ve been missing feeding time every other day, and now he’s ready to make you pay. If you catch him giving you that look, better keep one eye open when you hit the hay!
Cats are famously unpredictable—you might try to read their minds, but guess wrong, and this is exactly the kind of response you’ll face.
Laser Beam Kitten Eyes Activate!

This tiny kitten is already ready to take on the world. Cross their path, and you’ll feel the full power of that little white fluff ball. Those fierce eyes aren’t messing around.
When this kitten sets their mind on something, they’re determined to get it—otherwise, get ready for an unstoppable wave of cuteness to flood right onto your chest. Brace yourself, human.
The Bubbles Don’t Amuse Him

Who knew bubbles could spark such fury in an animal? This little guy looks like he’s gearing up to confront whoever had the nerve to blow those bubbles. Have you ever seen a dog get this riled up over something so harmless?
One wrong move, and you might be the target of this pup’s wrath. He comes off more like a fierce guard dog than a snuggly companion or kid’s playmate—though, thankfully, he’s probably perfectly safe as long as no bubbles are around.
The Disgruntled Akita

Akitas are known for showing their feelings clearly on their faces. Their expressions can be very dramatic, which makes them even more charming. One moment they’re full of snuggles and loyalty, and the next, they give you a look that says you just interrupted the most important nap of their life.
This Akita showing her teeth isn’t being aggressive—she’s just showing some serious sass. With a side-eye and a toothy grin, she’s giving you classic Akita attitude.
Shut The Blinds, I Need My Beauty Sleep

This Yorkshire Terrier clearly runs a tight ship—and part of that means *no* early morning sunlight messing with their beauty sleep. The nerve of these humans, thinking they can just open the blinds and go about their day like they’re in charge here!
That glare says it all: “You broke the nap agreement. We had rules.” If looks could take away your treat privileges, this one would have done it already.
You’ll Pay For This Later, Bob

Some pets ignore you after a bath—but this cat is sending full-on “I know what you did and you’ll pay” vibes. The wet fur, the narrowed eyes, the quiet judgment—it’s all there. You just *know* that somewhere in that feline mind, a plan is brewing involving shredded curtains or a perfectly timed hairball.
Taking your cat to the groomer might save your skin, but it won’t save your soul—not from that stare.
I Thought We Were Going To The Dog Park

This is the face of betrayal — quiet, simmering, boat-bound betrayal. The beagle had visions of wide open fields, the scent of birds on the breeze, and maybe a squirrel chase or two. Instead? He’s stuck on a floating nightmare where the ground moves and there are *no* trees.
He won’t bark, he won’t sulk — he’s just going to sit there and stare into your soul until you question every decision you’ve made since breakfast. You’ll cancel next weekend’s plans just to earn back a sliver of his trust.
I Am Bird, Hear Me Roar

Isn’t new life wonderful? Seeing the next generation being brought into the world can be a peaceful reminder that there is good in the world. But… this little bird had a little more to say when he burst out of his eggshell.
Positioned in full power stance, this chick has his wings out, his beak wide open, ready to tell the world like he sees it. He won’t be in the nest for long!
You’re Walking On Eggshells, Anita

This cat has incredibly blue eyes… incredibly blue angry eyes. Did you ever think you could find so much emotion in a pair of eyes that belong to a giant ball of fluff? This cat has plenty of feelings bottled up inside.
Judging by their adorably angry face, this cat wants you to stop making a ruckus and fetch them another dish of fish. We’re trying so hard to be afraid of this fluffy cat, but it’s just not going to happen.
No, I Will Not “Do It For The Gram”

It’s tough being the cute one. Someone always expects you to put on a happy face and pose for the camera. The average cat owner takes seven photos of their cat each day. That amounts to 1,016 hours each year. Really? Yes.
But this cat doesn’t want to be a statistic. They don’t want to wear a unicorn onesie. Are you serious?! While this cat is trying to look ferocious, they still look adorable as a unicorn.
Alright, I Have Something To Say

Judging by this dog’s stance, they’ve reached their boiling point in a situation and are ready to share some thoughts. Although they can’t speak English, there’s no confusion about what feelings this terrier is trying to get across right now.
While they’re doing their best to increase their height and stature to boost their tough guy vibe, we’re still overwhelmed with cuteness. Whatever they’re demanding, we’re ready to give in.
Let Me Innnnnnn!!!

Do you ever remember a time in your childhood when you were seriously struggling, but your parent found it adorable and took a photo instead of helping you? It’s likely that most of us carry a memory like this one. This cat knows the feeling.
She wants to be let in, but their owner finds their anger Instagram-worthy, and has to snap a photo before letting them back into the house.
Rawrrrrr, I’m A Tough Fluff

This little boy thinks he’s in charge, and we’ll go ahead and give him whatever he wants. Being this small, he probably hasn’t learned many things in life, but he has this tough guy face completely mastered.
Just look at that angry snoot. He’s not too sure what’s going on but he knows this means business. This little pup has big plans and you better get out of his way.
I Don’t Want To Be A Good Boy

Some dogs love being called a “good boy”… but not this husky. He doesn’t need your approval and he’d rather live a bad boy life. This pup is showing obvious signs of young rebellion– not quite knowing his place in the world but ready to ruff it up.
It’s going to be another few years before he’ll grow into a good boy and smile for a photo. Until then, this is all he has on offer.
All Buff, Not Fluff

Understandably, at this little dude’s size and stature, he’s bound to receive plenty of cute compliments. He would grin and bear it if only someone took notice of his strength once in a while.
He’s fresh out of the groomers and ready to cause some chaos. Tell him he’s cute just one more time and a flash of fluff will be the last thing you see before you start seeing stars.
My Teeth Make Me Tough

This beautiful husky is doing their best job to look tough. But those blue eyes and beautiful coat aren’t fooling anyone. They’ve been told that showing teeth make them look tough, so that’s the card they’ll play.
But really, she’s just buying time while she figures out what her next move will be. There’s a good chance it will be rolling over and asking for a belly rub. She’ll hold this look for as long as she can stand, though.
I’m Not Cut Out For This

There are indoor cats, outdoor cats, and some cats that dance in between. This kitten hasn’t been living life for too long, yet they’ve already decided their life’s path, and it’s indoor all the way. This kind of elegant long hair isn’t made for the farm life, and this kitten is over it.
They were brought to the watermelon patch, though they’d rather be lounging on the rug in front of a warm fire.
Are You Calling Me Stinky?

Sometimes we forget that even our tough friends have feelings. It’s one thing to offer your friend a stick of gum, hinting that they have bad breath. It’s another to throw them into a bathtub.
This dog isn’t happy with their owner’s lack of sensitivity. There could have been nicer ways to go about this, and now they’re giving their best rough and tough look to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.
Who Let This Dog Out?

Some people and animals are “dog people” and some just aren’t. That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with them; for one reason or another, they would just prefer to not have dogs around them.
This bird wants nothing to do with dogs. Yet, when it woke up, there was the largest dog in the history of dogs staring him in the face. This bird is so disappointed to be roused from their nap this way, they’re throwing their worst side-eye.
I Don’t Like You

This bird just dropped from the nest. It’s one of the biggest days of their life and they have the entire world ahead of them. But you’re totally, absolutely ruining their day. This baby bird’s face is one of disapproval.
You should probably move along and let them enjoy their big moment. But not before snapping a photo. Clearly, he doesn’t appreciate that choice either. At least his mom will have a photo of his big day to hang on the fridge, smile or not.
I’m Too Old For This

Muffy the dog has loved you for many, many years. However, during that time, she’s also had to tolerate your repetitive jokes and occasionally coming home smelling like another dog. You both know she won’t leave.
Instead, she’ll throw you judgmental stares so cold you’d think you’re in Iceland. We’re sure that once you offer her a milk bone and a head scratch, this will all be smoothed over soon.
I Hate When You Do This

Some pet owners just can’t get enough of their fur baby. They want to capture every minute of every day with their beloved pet. This dog has had his picture taken every day throughout his entire life, and he’s decided that enough is enough.
Although he would never tell his beloved owner to knock it off, his adorably angry face shows his feelings about the situation that has become his daily life.
Hoo Invited Them?

This owl looks like he’s completely comfortable sitting in the palm of this guy’s hand. He’s just hanging with his friends, trying to take his mind off the stress of his day. Then who walks in? Just the person he didn’t want to see again today.
This owl’s face is one of true scorn. He won’t say what he’s thinking, but he’ll throw his cute expressions of discontent over to his subject all night.
I’m Not Mini, I’m Mighty!

This little kitten can literally fit in the palm of your hand. So of course, you’d want to get a photo doing just that. But you’re not the first person who’s tried this, and this kitten is maxed out of patience.
If you’re going to take a photo, at least let this little tough guy keep his dignity, and use something more favorable to him for scale. He doesn’t need everyone to know he’s the size of a papaya!
I Don’t Want Your Friendship

Some cats always want attention, but most cats are fickle. One minute they’ll want head rubs and treats and the very next second, they’ll swat your hand away like you were never sharing a moment at all.
This cat decided that time was up for pets and he wants their owner to carry on. He won’t swat them away, but his adorably angry face is screaming out for alone time.
I Said We Couldn’t Get A Dog

There always seems to be that one family member who believes that the household shouldn’t get a dog. This goes on for years, as everyone else wants nothing more than to have a dog and eventually, they just bring one home.
In this case, the cat was the only family member not wanting a dog, and when they discovered a puppy in the kitchen, they were not happy with everyone.
I Never Get Your Jokes

It’s appropriate to politely laugh at your friend’s joke that you don’t quite understand, but after so many of them, you’re just ready to move on. This dog, sitting across from its owner, has obviously spent many morning walks and coffees listening to jokes that didn’t land and they’re done being polite.
They went with the slightly-frowning disapproving look you’d give a friend who just said they were getting back with their ex.
Didn’t Get Chosen By A Wizard

Meet the reject of Hogwarts. No wizard wanted to choose her, so she threw a fit and someone captured it on camera. She threatened to claw or peck out an eye.
If you think that’s bad, you didn’t even hear the screech. Not many of us can say that we’ve seen an owl have a temper tantrum, but here you go. Now you can say that you’ve witnessed such a marvel.
Skipping Rocks Blows!

Whoever said skipping rocks is fun lied to this poor dog. She doesn’t look amused one bit and it’s best if you stay clear. Whatever ticked this pooch off probably had to do with the water.
She didn’t want to get her paws too wet, but a wave approached too fast. We aren’t quite sure what went down that infuriated her this much, but she clearly doesn’t want to skip rocks anymore.
This Fish Means Business

Have you ever seen a fish this upset? We sure haven’t, but we wonder what exactly happened to put it in such a bad mood. Did someone eat the food it wanted?
This is a stern look of disapproval that you don’t want to see from any human or animal. This little one must really not like the food it’s being fed or something. Maybe he just wasn’t allowed to watch Finding Nemo for the 75th time.
Not Monkeying Around!

Unless you regularly interact with monkeys, you probably don’t have a clue what this facial expression might mean. We’re going to take a guess and say that this monkey might be feeling a little irritated right now, though!
We wonder what it takes to make a monkey but it could probably be a lot of things. Whatever the cause, this guy wants us to know that he’s not feeling it and that he should get some attention (a treat wouldn’t hurt, either).
What Happened Here??

Something, or someone, did the wrong thing to this cat. This look is the last thing you want to see from a cat, especially if you’re in range. It might leap on you and start clawing.
If the cat you own makes this look, you should give up the catnip. That always puts felines in a good mood, so that’s your best bet. You’ll calm down this bad mood in no time that way.
