People who just learned the purposes of these strange objects

The internet is a vast and wonderful source of information. If there’s something that you don’t know how to do, or something you’re confused about, the internet is going to be the first place you go to look.

That was the case with all of these people who found strange items and went looking for their true purposes. The internet, or at least Reddit, had all the answers they needed.

Weeding Out The Answer

This strange, sharp-looking mini-Segway arrived in someone’s mailbox and left them feeling utterly confused about its use.

According to Reddit, it’s used for weeding cracks and crevices—though it’s not a very effective tool.

Found On A Camping Trip

The person who posted this item described it as “two small rings held together by a thin chain,” but it’s actually much more than that.

It’s a wire saw that someone must have dropped on their own camping trip.

Oh, I See What It Is!

Belonging to his grandfather, one user was told that these were old contact lenses but he was “skeptical.”

They’re close to that; they’re glass eyes. You wouldn’t be able to see much out of them.

Thanks Mom! I Love… Whatever This Is

A mysterious gift from their mother, someone had to turn to the internet to figure out what they’re supposed to do with this.

It’s apparently meant for chopping vegetables or nuts.

Girlfriend’s Torture Tool

While digging through his girlfriend’s makeup bag, one man came across this potential torture tool.

It’s just a derma roller though so he doesn’t need to be worried about her using it against him if she gets upset.

Why Is The Vent Glowing?

A glowing vent apparently does not indicate that some sort of radioactive chemical is seeping its way into your room through the air ducts.

If an Airbnb has this, it means there’s a UV-C sterilization lamp that kills germs or viruses as they pass through the vent, and can help prevent mold.

It Came With His Phone Case

Why would a small plastic item that resembles a fish skeleton come in the package with a new phone case?

It’s for wrapping your headphones so they don’t get bent or tangled while you’re not using them.

No Need To Be Worried

The person who posted this photo had “no clue where to begin” even trying to figure out what this might be.

Luckily Reddit had the answer for him, and it wasn’t that his grandfather was some sort of serial killer. It’s a Puzzle Box attachment for a sewing machine from the late 1800s.

It Gets The Job Done. Barely.

There were a lot of questions about what this tool might be. A glass cutter? An optometrist’s assistant? A can opener?

The final verdict is that it’s a knife sharpener. Granted, not a very good one, but still a knife sharpener.

You Can’t Play Roulette With This Wheel

Someone gave this to one Reddit user’s father more than 30 years ago. They think it might be a metal calculator but couldn’t quite remember.

They remembered correctly! It’s an Optima Circular Calculator, made in Germany in the early 1900s.

Well That Looks Dangerous

This curious item looks more like a weapon than a kitchen tool.

The little spikes on the interior of the circle would crack the shell of a soft-boiled egg so you could remove the top.

Mysterious Numbered Nails

This person found that many of the nails on their home had numbers on them and they were curious as to why.

The house was likely a kit house from Sears, where they would have labeled the nails to make construction easier. Like a build-your-own house.

A Glass Cornucopia? How… Practical? Helpful?

The person who posted this one to Reddit described it as a glass drinking horn that their grandfather dug up in his garden, but some people corrected him.

It’s apparently an automobile vase, for putting a bouquet of flowers on display while you’re in the car.

It’s Definitely, Probably Aliens, Right?

If you were driving through Erie, Pennsylvania, and saw a dark ring in the clouds, what would you think?

The obvious assumption would be that it’s aliens, but you’d be wrong this time. It’s a blown transformer smoke ring.

The Miracle Clock

Why is there a switch on the back of this clock that’s labeled “miracle eye,” you ask?

That little switch can be turned on and off. While it’s turned on the clock will not make any noise unless it senses light. So basically it’ll be quiet at night while people are sleeping.
