Apparently, this icicle that formed on this family’s house was a staggering 64 inches. That definitely makes for one of the biggest icicles ever and it’s a good thing it’s off the house because it would outright deadly if it feel on someone.

But of course, the best part of all of this is how adorably excited both father and son are about their incredible discovery!

It’s A Lost Cause But It’s Amazing It still Holds

As this person explained, their cup is slightly broken, but “slightly” translates to broken to such a degree that the liquid inside of it is leaking through its walls.

Naturally, this led concerned commenters to insist that this is just broken and there’s no “slightly” about it. It’s kind of sweet to see how worried everyone was about them getting scalded or sick.

Someone’s Been Busy

It looks like a woodpecker has been hard at work filling this tree with acorns for the winter.

First, they’ll tap a little hole into the tree, then they’ll pick up an acorn and tap it into the hole.

A Wavy Wall

Reddit user smell1s posted this photo online along with the caption, “In England you sometimes see these ‘wavy’ brick fences. And curious as it may seem, this shape uses FEWER bricks than a straight wall.”

“A straight wall needs at least two layers of bricks to make it sturdy, but the wavy wall is fine thanks to the arch support provided by the waves.”

Even With Inflation, There Are Far Worse Deals There

letter
flippedpages/reddit

In case this letter is hard to make out, it’s an apartment listing for a six-bedroom, three-bathroom place on New York City’s Park Avenue. In 1951, this apartment was available for about $400 a month.

Naturally, it’s impossible to live anywhere in New York City for that little nowadays, but even those who pointed out that this would amount to about $4,900 a month when adjusted for inflation noted that it’s still an enviable price for a place of that size. At least, it is in the Big Apple.

It’s Not Even Time For The Nature Hike

While people certainly learn valuable survival skills in the Boy Scouts, it’s also supposed to foster a newfound appreciation and communion with nature.

As it turns out, that can sometimes happen before the scouts even go outside. In this case, that’s because this captivating European peacock butterfly decided to hide out in this cabin.

It Feels So Bizarre To See This In Real Life

Tree
ivanacapkova/reddit

If you play the right kind of retro-style game, it’s not too hard to find trees that take on this square shape. Indeed, they pretty much all look like this in Minecraft.

However, it’s only on this corner in Seville that you’re likely to see such a perfectly rectangular tree in real life. It’s hard to imagine how look it took to groom it like this.

They Certainly Know Their Customer Base

Stool
Brain_Wilson/reddit

It can often be surprising to learn what a company that’s famous for one line of products also makes. For instance, far more people will consider buying a guitar from Fender than even realize they also sell stools like this.

However, those who make this unusual little discovery that one perk their stools have is a handy little pocket for guitar picks. Is that the whole reason why they even make stools?

Good Luck Guessing Which Restaurant This Is

Restaurant
Maya-kardash/reddit

Since it would be incredibly unreasonable to expect people to guess any specific independently-owned 50’s-style diner that exists in the United States, it would be reasonable for most people to guess this is a Johnny Rockets location.

However, the only real clue is that sing in the back, which advertises flame-grilled Whoppers. That’s right, this is a special Burger King franchise that was kept in the aesthetic style that reigned when the company was originally founded.

This Balloon Is Way Older Than It Looks

Fusionfang/reddit

Although they’re typically acquired for hospital visits rather than birthday parties, enough people have had a mylar balloon at some point in their lives that it’s widely attested that they last longer than the regular kind.

Even with that in mind, however, it’s still unlikely that anyone could guess how long this person’s balloon has lasted since their father received it in the hospital. Unless they’ve been as lucky, 14 years doesn’t seem like it would be anyone’s guess.

This Is A Clear Sign To Stay Inside

Waffle house
GruxKing91/reddit

For those familiar, the Waffle House index is a somewhat informal way of measuring how intense a given weather event is going to be. Since Waffle Houses can remain open under surprisingly extreme conditions, the fact that a local one is closed is usually a worrying sign to hunker down.

Of course, the level of chaos some inclement weather can bring is relative. While the more northern parts of the United States wouldn’t bat an eye at this level of snow, it’s the most that Dayton, Ohio, has had since 1978. Hence, the Waffle House is closed for the day.

That Stain Probably Isn’t What You’re Guessing It Is

babybeastofnurgle/reddit

While most people are understandably not keen to examine reddish-brown stains on the snow, only forensic investigators would be likely to guess what happened here.

That’s because they’d be the first to realize this is blood. As for how it got there, the uploader said the snow was so icy and sharp that it actually cut their ankle. They were amazed that their short boots wouldn’t cut it that day.

This sculpture is absolutely massive. Its size is what makes it so impressive.

This snake might look like a strange cartoon creature, but it’s actually a real snake that exists in real life.

It looks like someone knit a spider web with yarn between these strands of barbed wire, but this is just what happens on really cold and really humid mornings.

Check out all of those ice crystals!

These ants are making short work of this almond. They’re eating it from the inside out and creating a whole pile of almond dust in their wake.

Then they’re going to carry all of that dust back to their nest.

This guy is much bigger than a kiwi fruit.

Artist Ants

This ant seems to be partial to quadrilaterals. Maybe he’s trying to give us a geometry lesson.

A Melted Cup

Apparently, this is what happens when you pour very hot grease into a red solo cup.

The whole cup shrunk down and we aren’t really sure where all of that extra plastic went.

Another Planet

This looks like a picture that was taken on another plane.

However, this photo was taken right here on Earth, in Finland to be exact, where it gets so cold that tall trees accumulate a ton of snow and frost.

The Always Blossoming Sunflower

The real question would be to know how long it took for that sunflower to gain so much height.

This is further proof that nature will simply reclaim the planet one day.

Even Birds Keep Their Childish Spirit

This blue jay still has half of its baby feathers, which is the reason why half of it is gray and the other half is made of beautiful shades of blue.

It’s like the bird equivalent of awkward teen years, except prettier.

The Trajectory Of Bees

This is a time-lapse photo of a beehive. It’s crazy to notice how uniform and aligned each line of motion looks like.

You’d think it was a trained military march.

The Smallest Frog That Was

This frog is smaller than a penny.

It’s crazy to think that it still has a full skeletal system, full arteries, veins, and internal organs, all in that little body.

Lucid Dreaming

No Seasonal Limitations

These tulips blooming in the snow look so out of place—but in a beautiful way.

It’s almost a metaphorical way of saying that if you put in the work, you can blossom in any environment, even cold harsh ones that seem to be working against you.

Ready To Be Colored In

This little transparent butterfly landed directly on someone in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Because its wings are transparent, it takes on the colors of whatever is behind it, making it either the most or the least colorful butterfly, depending on how you look at it.

Crystal Clear

This snail was found outside, yet its shell was still crystal clear.

Of course, it stays clean, but you leave a clear vase inside your home and within three days it’s covered in a layer of dust. Unfair.

The Golden Bee

This purely golden bee landed on a man’s window just to say hello, so he tried to ask the internet what breed it was. People couldn’t agree without genetic analysis, but figured it was likely a Cordovan or a mix of other lightly colored honeybees.

They agreed however that it’s unique in its brighter color.

The See-Through Fish

Somehow, It Doesn’t Bother Her

Toothpaste
Common_Government_97/reddit

As Reddit user Common_Government_97 explained, their mom is using a tube of toothpaste that comes by its retro aesthetics honestly. That’s because its sell by date was January 15, 1988.

While there are some things in life that don’t really go bad, it doesn’t seem like toothpaste would be one of them. Obviously, that woman disagrees.

For Those Wondering Whether This Is Snow Or A Plant, It’s Both

Plants
Salty_peachcake/reddit

Down in Texas, there’s a native plant called frostweed and it’s so named because it has a special reaction to freezing temperatures. Specifically, its stems secrete water during those conditions.

Naturally, that water then freezes. However, what gives the frostweed its distinct character concerns the unpredictable shapes that water freezes into.
