Winter is in full effect (bomb cyclone anyone?), and Erie, Pennsylvania definitely knows it. Though the East Coast is shivering, not too long ago the city on the lake got absolutely walloped by an incredible 53 inches of snow in only 30 hours. That’s just shy of four-and-a-half feet. In 30 HOURS.
The snow started on Christmas and dumped 34 inches that day, and continued into December 26, adding another 19 inches. The Christmas Day total was a new record for the city: the previous high for total snowfall in one day was 20 inches on November 11, 1956. To be clear, that record was wrecked.
By December 30th, Erie had picked up 120.8 inches of snow – 10 feet. And January has not been especially friendly (looking at you bombogenesis). So stay safe and stay warm!
