This Country Would Surely Survive a Zombie Apocalypse
The country began a comprehensive civil defense program in 1963 that required every Swiss household to build and stock its own shelter. At least 3,000 points of demolition are hidden throughout the country.
Here’s a breakdown of how excessively prepared the Swiss are for invasion, apocalypse, and/or nuclear disaster:
- There are hidden bomb shelters everywhere. Beneath quiet towns rest underground parking garages in which each and every resident could fit inside.
- Their bridges are wired to blow. Segments of highway bridges that cross over railroads are programmed to collapse onto the tracks, which are surrounded by hidden artillery so that anyone who tries to repair the damage will be obliterated.
- Man-made rockslides are rigged into the hills.
- While weapons are stashed away under barns, cannons hide inside pretty houses.
But the craziest of all are the secrets that live inside the Alps. Many of the mountains are hollowed out to make room for endless networks of tunnels, caverns, and bunkers.
One mountain reportedly holds a hydroelectric power station inside that’s only accessible by ladders and stairs. If they had to, soldiers could climb the entire mountain from within.
Clearly, the Swiss Army is devoted to defending the country at any cost. We shouldn’t be surprised, though – the amount of tools they can cram into one little pocket knife gave away their comprehensive mastery a long time ago.
