What would you do if you had a million dollars?

It’s a question many of us roll around in our heads – in the shower, while we’re driving, anytime we have a few minutes to daydream.

We might buy a new house, or take a trip. Maybe adopt some kids or animals, and sure, we’d think about giving some of it away.

But not all of it, right?

Then again, in our daydreams, we’ve always been knowingly gifted that million bucks. We didn’t simply find it lying around, no idea who it might belong to – which is exactly what happened to this Virginia family.

Crazy!

WTVR reported that the Schantz family was driving through Caroline County, VA, when they found two bags completely stuffed with cash. The truck in front of them swerved to avoid hitting something, hit it anyway, and kept going – they stopped to see what was in the road.

“Inside of the bag, there were plastic baggies and they were addressed with something that said ‘cash vault.'”

The family called the sheriff’s office after they realized what they were holding. Deputies believe the bags belonged to the U.S. Postal Service, and that the money had been bound for a bank, but no word at this time on how they ended up in the middleof the road.

Maj. Scott Moser, a spokesperson for the Caroline County Sheriff’s office, tipped his hat to the family in an interview.

“For someone so honest and willing to give that almost a million dollars back, it’s exceptional on their part. Their two sons were there, so I put the lights on for them, but we are proud and they represented this county well by being so honest.”

As far as the Schantz’s, though, there was never any doubt as to what they would do with the cash.

“Do the right thing and return it. Because it didn’t belong to us.”

Simple truth, but something that would have caused weaker people to at least stop and consider.
