We know everybody wants to rule the world, but that isn’t exactly the reality for most of us. If you’re itching to be in charge, though, the town of Story, Indiana is for sale. It’s not just any town, though—according to Atlas Obscura, current owner Rick Hofstetter has turned the town into a historic tourist and wedding destination.
The six houses in Story have all been converted into the Story Inn. Although it has been renovated, the town/inn retains many of its 19th-century elements, including globe lighting and tin ceilings. It has also been listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The town includes 17.4 acres of property, a general store, a grain mill, barns, and two privies. A news release described the town as “the best surviving example of a 19th-century pioneer logging/farming community in the American Midwest.”
So it’s you’re lucky day! If you have an extra $3.8 million, that is.
As purchaser, you would be required to adhere to the town covenants, though, and keep up its historic charm. And why wouldn’t you?
