Movies, television, books – all kinds of entertainment are full of cliches. It’s because they’re easy, sure, but it’s also because they’re something most people inherently understand, which allows the writers to shortcut some explanation.
Just because they have a purpose doesn’t mean it’s not funny (and sometimes insulting), though, and Twitter recently had a ball “introducing” themselves as a Hollywood cliche with the “I am a…” thread.
