If you’re old enough to remember Underoos, we’ve got some good news for you. These popular underwear sets featuring characters like Batman and Superman are now available in adult sizes, so you can relive all of your childhood underwear dreams.
Even if you didn’t grow up with Underoos, you can still appreciate these fun costume-like underwear sets. They were designed in the late 1970s by a marketing and licensing expert named Larry Weiss, who was convinced there was a market for exciting underwear that helped boost kids’ confidence.
Who wouldn’t feel more confident with a pair of Spider-Man underpants on, right?
Weiss struggled to get his idea off the ground but eventually found success with Fruit of the Loom.
Underwear, and specifically Underoos, became wildly popular among children, who asked for them for birthdays and holidays.
Today, you can find adult-sized Underoos featuring classic superheroes as well as modern pop culture figures from “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter” and “Despicable Me.”
There are even retro throwback sets of Underoos in child sizes, too.
Who knew that so much thought went into designing fancy underwear? Either way, we’re glad Weiss never gave up on his idea and that Underoos are still around today!
What were your favorite birthday and holiday gifts as a kid? Did you hate getting clothes and socks, or did you mind?
