You might have heard about a certain virus making the rounds here in the United States and around the world, one that’s upsetting life as we know it for many people.
You might also have heard that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that Americans wear a cloth mask while in public places where people tend to gather in groups.
“CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies”, especially in areas of significant community-based transmission,” says their website.

Several states, like California, New York, and Maryland have made wearing a mask outside your house mandatory.
That hasn’t stopped some people from ignoring the recommendations and even mandates. They tout their freedom to do as they choose with their bodies, and seem to either not understand or not care that the way they do their body could have a negative effect on many more bodies who happen to exist near them.
But that’s a different story, because this woman – who got caught on video by user Joe Samaan – mutilated her mask because it made it too hard to breathe.
Really.
Samaan was working a shit at an S J Food Mart outside Lexington, Kentucky, when the woman came in to pay for her gas. She was wearing a mask, but as she approached the counter, Samaan noticed there was a hole in the middle.
He rung up her transaction before asking “Where did you get that mask from?”
“Well since we have to wear them and it makes it hard to breathe, this makes it a lot easier to breathe.”
“Cutting it? …Yeah sure I’ll do that too, thanks for the advice.”

The short, mind-blowing interaction has been viewed on TikTok and Twitter millions of times.
Most people are pretty shocked that she actually thought there was any point to wearing a mask that didn’t cover her nose and mouth, but honestly, after seeing the number of people out wearing them just over their mouth (or on their chin?) I can’t say I’m surprised.
We’re going to get through this, y’all. Some of us with better grades than others.
I mean, I know it’s not a test, per se…but everything’s a test.
Right?
