Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s good for you.
I’m talking about fast food, booze, vaping, the list is endless when you think about it…
Everything in moderation, you know?
But that’s not how most people roll.
Folks on AskReddit admitted what legal things they’re addicted to.
Let’s see what they had to say.
1. Over the top.
“Dog collars and dog gear I have one dog And like 120+ fancy collars for her
I had to unfollow collar makers because I can’t stop myself from over buying sometimes lmao but it makes me happy and I never have gone broke over it.
I just know I look insane with that many collars, leashes, bandana, etc.”
2. All day long.
“Popcorn. Crunchy, buttery, salty warm delicious smelling popcorn.
Not the microwave stuff. I mean like.. the perfect, better than at the movies, made with precision, care and love popcorn.”
3. Can’t stop, won’t stop.
“Diet Coca-Cola is the ONLY thing I need in terms of food/drinks.
I drink 1 to 2 cans a day because it’s not cheap and I so look forward to the late morning post-workout and evening coke. Needs to be a can though I swear the stuff from plastic bottles f**ks with the taste. The best thing is glass bottles but I haven’t seen those around here in ages.
While I’m a pretty picky and monotonous eater (yay autism) and I can get slightly upset when any of my foods aren’t here, nothing matches the drama lama I become if there’s no diet Coca-Cola and I can’t go get it. Thankfully I’m the only one who drinks it in the house.”
4. Wow.
“Fast food / with delivery.
Its dumb how addicting, easy, rewarding the lack of effort it is.
It gets to the point that I get home from work, with time to cook, with food on the fridge to prepare, look at the kitchen and feel myself deflate and all strength leave my body. “Eh, whats one more delivery”.
It drains me phisically, mentally, and monetarily. Yet its completely legal, advertised, encouraged.
Was never like that untill 1-2 years after living in a house by myself. Its gotten to the point that I prefer to drive 40min to my parents house just to eat a proper homecooked meal. I’m sure they appreciate the visits, but I bet they think I’m do it because I’m overworked (I am, but thats not the reason) and have no time to cook.”
5. Bad news.
“Nicotine. The most addictive stuff.
It’s crazy how it’s reprogrammed my brain over the years.”
6. That’s odd.
“Nose spray.
I’ve been addicted for 15 years now. I started lowering the dose a year ago. I filled it up with NACL and lowered the part of the nasal spray every refill.
My husband is doing the mixing for half a year now and I guess its now only nacl. I use it twice a day and I think he won’t tell me if its a placebo now.”
7. Sticky icky icky.
“Cannabis.
It’s just so good and I don’t have any reasons to stop. I do programming for work and coding high is just way better.
I also prefer talking to my coworkers high now that I’m remote and don’t have to worry about somebody smelling it.
It’s so much cheaper when it’s legal too (and obviously easier to buy whenever you want).”
8. Keep it coming.
“Cheese. It’s like crack for people over 30.
Gimme all the cheese, especially a nice sharp Cheddar.
I predict gout in my future.”
9. What’s your brand?
“At the moment…flavored sparking water.
I went from “ewww” to one a day to more quite fast.
It is freaking hot outside and I would normally have a Coke.”
10. Never heard of this.
“Kratom…but it saved me from pills and I can function normally, and even cut back. Hell I can skip a day or two if I feel like it..
Suboxone never provided the mental clarity from the cloud opiates hang over your head. It’s a tough battle, and I won’t give up. Kratom is the best success I have had at getting clean and away from opiates. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel now. I’ll get there with my strength and determination.
It is my opinion that I would have never have made it this far if I stayed in a Suboxone maintenance program. Suboxone just isn’t far enough from the real thing. It gets worse when you try to taper off of Subs.”
11. Intense.
“Chocolate milk.
Not that Hershey’s syrup s**t. Thick, creamy, delicious, cold chocolate milk. Ever since I was a baby. Throughout my life, my family would often remark on my love for chocolate milk; how I would chug it out of my sippy cup until I’d throw up. I would carry around a half gallon at work and drink the whole thing every day. Then I would go home and drink some more.
I take Adderall for narcolepsy, so for several years I didn’t have much of an appetite, except for my beloved chocolate milk. I wouldn’t really eat very much very often.
Right around the age of 28 or 29, I had a doctor’s appointment and realized I had gained more than 50 pounds in less than a year. Since I wasn’t really eating much, I knew it was all of the chocolate milk. Right then and there I made a New Year’s Resolution of sorts; no more chocolate milk. Ever. I had to do this cold turkey or I knew I wouldn’t be able to do it at all.
I’m about 6 years clean at this point and let me tell you, it’s been a struggle. I have given up s**king and drinking, but nothing has been as hard as the chocolate milk. I could absolutely have a ci**rette or a Jack and Coke without worrying about falling back into the habit. I don’t even really crave those vices. But I have not had a single sip of chocolate milk since the day I quit. I know one little taste will be my undoing. It makes me so sad and I miss it so much.
The worst part? All this work of staying on the straight and narrow and I still have not lost that 50+ pounds.”
12. That’s a bad one.
“Red Bull.
I got hooked working in the journalism industry staying up all night. 8 years later I drink it before bed…
Yeah I know I need to kick this habit…”
