Ahhhhh, to be young again.
I lived in a very small town in Illinois until I was 10-years-old and I look back fondly on those days.
Riding my bike downtown with my friends, hanging out in the park, little to no adult supervision.
It was a blast!
What brings back childhood nostalgia for you?
Here’s what AskReddit users had to say.
1. What a feeling…
“That feeling when you are going as high as you can go on the swings.
Power? Freedom?
Hard to describe.”
2. The best!
“Getting up in the morning on a day it snowed to watch the list of closed schools across the bottom of the news/weather channel hoping your school was closed.”
3. Early bird.
“Waking up super early on Saturday morning before the rest of the family to watch cartoons.”
4. Summertime.
“Eating one of those plastic wrapped ice pop things after a long day of playing outside in your backyard with your friends.”
5. Get your read on.
“Book fairs.
We had Book It back in the 1980s.
You read a certain number of books and got a few tiny pizza from Pizza Hut.
I read so many books and loved my tiny pizzas.”
6. Remember to blow on it.
“The tingle of a skinned knee from drag on asphalt, and the dread of having it cleaned…”
7. Oh, yeah!
“You knew it was gonna be a good day when you walk into PE class and see that huge colorful parachute.”
8. On the tube.
“Remember the warm, fuzzy static left on your tv screen after it was on for a while.
Movies and video games on Channel 3.”
9. Video stores were the bomb.
“We weren’t too poor to go to Blockbuster regularly, but we were poor enough that getting a movie from the New Release shelf was rare and one of the most exciting things in the world to young me.
Streaming services just don’t hit the same.”
10. That was fun.
“Light Bright.
I barely remember it myself but you’d take a charcoal-black board and poke different colored pegs through it.
You plug it in to the electrical outlet and all the pegs light up creating whatever shape you made in lights.”
11. Look at them grow!
“Chi-chi-chi-chia!
I never got a Chia Pet but I really wanted one.”
12. Quality programming.
“AFV (Americas Funniest Home Videos).
It was one of the few things three generations of my family could watch together during reunions.
And every time someone would say “ugh, another one with a baby.” Sometimes me.”
13. Come on…
“Somewhere between blowing on some cartridges and pressing the cartridge down and up in the NES to get it to play.”
