22 Popular Quotes People Could Totally Do Without

No one knows how certain quotes become part of mainstream, everyday vernacular.

It probably has something to do with how widely applicable they are, how easy it is for a huge number of people to really take the advice and overlay it on their own lives and problems.

Some, though, really get under people’s skin – and these folks wish these 22 quotes would just disappear into the ether.

22. There is a lot that’s impossible.

Nothing is impossible.

Ah yes allow me to fix 2020 so that it never happened.

21. I actually think if it’s true it will bother you less?

“If it’s not true the rumor won’t bother you.”

Like wtf, some weirdos are talking behind my back and on top of it making up stories that are not true.

Of course I’m gonna be mad about it.

20. It’s gotten a bit twisted.

The customer is always right.

“The customer is always right” was popularized by pioneering and successful retailers such as Harry Gordon Selfridge, John Wanamaker and Marshall Field.

They advocated that customer complaints should be treated seriously so that customers do not feel cheated or deceived.

It was never meant as an explanation of market forces, though personally I find the alternative explanation more appealing.

19. Literally every day.

“Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”

Love means saying you’re sorry all the time. If you can’t admit you’re wrong, your relationship will fail to thrive

18. Bad eggs are rare, but they exist!

Not extremely popular but “There are no bad students, only bad teacher”.

Sometimes a person is just plain a bad egg, without any reasonable explanation or guidance.

17. We all know this is a lie.

“I won’t get mad if you tell me” -Mom

16. Have you heard of Job?

God never gives you more than you can handle.

15. Yeah, that’s probably not the case.

“They’re only picking on you because they’re jealous!”

-Signed every mom trying to make their kid feel better.

14. This has hurt many a person in a crappy relationship.

“If it isn’t hard, it isn’t worth it”

13. It’s called privacy, people!

“If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.”

12. If only that was all you had to do.

“Good things come to those who wait”

In reality, good things come to those who go out and earn rather than lounging around waiting for something to happen

11. We all know that it does.

“Lightning never strikes the same place twice”

10. Sometimes there’s no pot of gold.

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”.

We’re supposed to believe that enduring horrible things will make us more capable, more resilient people.

But a lot of the time it’s just not true. Some harsh experiences have no value at all.

9. You can do your best and still fail.

If you try your best your dreams will come true.

8. Get out that soapbox, girl.

“Those who can’t do, teach” makes me so fucking angry, especially for arts teachers. Teaching is not a backup job to support your hobby, it’s one of the most important jobs in the world. A bad teacher can fuck up a kid or entire classes of kids pretty badly, or ruin their love of the subject.

Aside from being a teacher and a working musician myself, all of my favorite/best college and grad professors were constantly working and performing whenever they weren’t teaching. My mentor’s phone rings constantly from people trying to hire him for gigs.

My least favorite professors, on the other hand, were the burnt-out bitter assholes who couldn’t play and gave up on their dreams, and treated teaching as a backup job to collect a paycheck, instead of fostering creativity and love of the arts in their students.

If you can’t do, you better stay the fuck away from classrooms because you will make a godawful teacher. And if you CAN do, you still might not be a good teacher because that’s an entirely different skill set.

7. All. The. Time.

Bad things happen to good people all of the time.

Bad people go unpunished all of the time.

6. It might be comforting to some, but…

“Everything happens for a reason”

Most people who I hear saying this mean that the reason comes AFTER the thing.

Kinda like when someone says “when a door closes, a window opens”.

But it’s bullshit. The reasons for things happening come BEFORE the things and thinking otherwise is foolish. Take some responsibility!!

5. If you’re between the ages of ten and twenty-three, yes.

If all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?

4. You can’t know what’s in other people’s heads.

When someone loves you they will always make time for you. No excuses.

Simply not true. Sometimes people are really busy or struggling or depressed.

3. People who have really bad worsts always say this.

“If you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best.”

2. Sometimes you should just go home.

Go big or go home.

1. Gross.

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”

Just because they can’t hurt you physically doesn’t mean they can’t scar you mentally.

Mine is “if it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”

I know it’s mean to make people feel better, but dude. Sometimes it IS the end and it’s definitely not ok?
