On average, anesthesiologists in the USA earn an annual salary of $258,100 — a number five times greater than what the average American earns.
Anesthesiologists are responsible for the safety of their patients before, during, and after surgery. In America, they’re required to complete a four-year undergrad degree, four years of med school, and a four-year anesthesiology residency program. Medscape’s 2014 Physician Compensation Report found that nearly 80% of anesthesiologists spend 40+ hours per week with patients.
Having undergone three surgeries myself, I greatly appreciate that anesthesiologists are paid well in return for their time spent not only in school, but with patients- as I’m sure you understand.
What do you think? Were you at all surprised by the top ten?
