‘Walt Disney’s dead body is frozen.’ — 7 Popular Myths About Famous Celebrities

Rumors and speculation about celebrities are as old as Hollywood itself. Some of these stories turn out to be true, but most of the time they are definitely not.

But that doesn’t seem to stop them from circulating.

I remember when I was young there was a certain rumor about Jon Bon Jovi having his stomach pumped because it was full of…semen. Apparently, the same rumor followed Steve McQueen around twenty years before that. In hindsight, that’s obviously malarky.

But, in the spirit of gossip, here are 7 myths about celebrities that are total BS but continue to be whispered about to this day.

1. Walt Disney’s frozen body

You’ve heard this one before, right? That when Walt Disney died in 1966, his body was cryogenically frozen and stored away so we can resurrect good old Walt when science allows us to resurrect our loved ones?

It sounds like a cool story (or a good sci-fi movie), but the fact is, it’s not at all true. The rumors started in the 1980s when a flimsily fact-checked biography of Disney made it to publishing. The book claimed that Disney may have been “interested” in cryogenics, and the rumor mill started working overtime, suggesting that Mr. Disney actually had his body frozen so he could rise again someday in the future. Even Disney’s daughter said, “There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that my father, Walt Disney, wished to be frozen. I doubt that my father had ever heard of cryonics.”

So while the rumors will probably last forever, the fact is that Disney was cremated and his ashes are interred in Glendale, California.

2. J Lo’s butt

Jennifer Lopez is famous…and so is her rump. So much so that a rumor has long floated around that J Lo had her butt insured for one million dollars.

Talk show host James Corden asked Lopez about the gossip to put an end to the speculation once and for all.

Lopez said, “No! There is no such thing as that. I think there is a place in your homeland [England] where you can insure certain things, parts of your body – seriously. I think that exists. I’ve heard that. Not here, I don’t think!”

So let’s put that myth to bed, mmmmkay?

3. Pamela Anderson’s rib removal

This is a strange one…and Pamela Anderson isn’t the only celebrity who has been accused of having her ribs removed to make her waist smaller (spoiler, she did not). Also linked to this rumor in past: Cher, Jane Fonda, Elizabeth Taylor, Kate Moss, and Britney Spears.

Marilyn Manson was also rumored to have had ribs removed so he could…please himself orally. Seriously. That is also BS, for the record.

Cher said about the myth as it pertained to her, “I’ve killed myself in the gym to have this body. It isn’t like I have some amazing secret that nobody else has.”

One odd side note: Joan Crawford did really have teeth removed in order to give herself sunken cheekbones. So there’s that…

4. Paul from The Wonder Years grew up to be Marilyn Manson

This is a very popular celebrity rumor, and, man, I wish it was true. The myth goes that little Paul Pfeiffer from the hit TV show The Wonder Years grew up to be controversial shock rocker Marilyn Manson.

But alas, this myth is just a myth. Josh Saviano, who played the role of Paul Pfeiffer, went on to study at Yale and is now a lawyer.

This is what Josh looks like now, FYI.

5. Jamie Lee Curtis is a hermaphrodite

A hermaphrodite is a someone who is born with both male and female sex organs. The rumor that actress Jamie Lee Curtis is a hermaphrodite and had surgery to become a female has followed her around for years.

The myth about Curtis never had any reliable source and has been word-of-mouth gossip for a long time. There are two (untrue) explanations for why people insist it’s true. 1. Her parents, Hollywood stars Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, named the baby Jamie because she was born a hermaphrodite so they chose a unisex name. 2. Jamie Lee Curtis’ children are adopted.

Bottom line: it’s BS.

6. Mr. Rogers was a sniper

Another one that would be amazing if it were true but is, sadly, just a myth. Fred Rogers never served in the military, let alone as a sniper or a Navy SEAL as has been rumored in the past.

But you know who did? Dr. Ruth.

Well, kind of.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the famous television sex doctor, had a tumultuous childhood. She was sent away by her family from Germany to live in Switzerland to avoid the Nazis when she was young. Her parents eventually died in the Holocaust. When she was still a teenager she moved to what is now Israel and joined a Jewish paramilitary organization.

Because of her small stature (she’s only 4’7″), Dr. Ruth trained as a sniper and a scout for the group. She found out she was a crack shot, but she insists she never killed anyone. She was, however, seriously injured by an exploding shell in 1948 during the Israeli War of Independence.

7. Katy Perry is JonBenét Ramsey

This bizarre fan theory posits that pop star Katy Perry is actually the child pageant queen JonBenét Ramsey, who was murdered in 1996.

Do you even need an explanation as to why this one is so ridiculous? I suppose there is some resemblance there, but this one is just too far-fetched, and kind of disrespectful.

People have too much time on their hands…
