A kid put together a booklet of prayers for a Sri Lankan church’s Christmas carol service back in December and he, uh, might not have been paying attention.
At least, that’s his story about how and why Tupac Shakur’s 1996 song “Hail Mary” got printed instead of the time-honored Catholic version. Instead of “Hail Mary, full of grace,” churchgoers were treated to these opening lines:
Makaveli in this, Killuminati
All through your body (All through your body)
The blow is like a 12-Gauge shotty (Uh) feel me!
(Come with me Hail Mary, nigga, run quick, see)
And God said he should send his one begotten son
(What do we have here now Do you wanna ride or die)
To lead the wild into the ways of the man
Follow me! (La la-da-la la la la la)
Eat my flesh, flesh of my flesh!
Yeah. Not the same.

The booklet of prayers, titled “A Festival of Music for Peace & Harmony” probably shouldn’t have included a song that says “F– the world if they can’t adjust/it’s just as well/Hail Mary.” The church’s members quickly spotted the (mostly hilarious) error and tweeted it out immediately, to the delight of the internet.
“A lot of people were in shock as to whether it was a joke or someone would actually rap the song,” said churchgoer Andrew Choksy. “A few of the older ladies in front of us could not stop looking at the printed booklet.”
The error was caught almost immediately (for obvious reasons) and priest Father Da Silva said they were told about it before the start of the show.
Too late to fix it, of course, but who doesn’t enjoy a little extra entertainment at Christmas?
