If you haven’t heard a song by Ed Sheeran by now, you don’t have ears.
Ed is a Grammy-award winning artist known across the world for his singles ‘The A Team’ and ‘Thinking Out Loud’. Also, his friends call him “Fire Crotch.” So that’s fun!
Here are 7 facts about the red-headed singer/songwriter you may not know. Enjoy!
1. He Crashed On Jamie Foxx’s Couch?!
True story. Sheeran performed on Jamie’s radio show back in 2010 and Foxx was blown away. So he offered him a place to stay.
From Variety:
“He’s incredible and I’m like, ‘Listen, I know you don’t have anywhere to go, just chill here. I was giving him food, and my daughter was like, ‘Who do you have over here now?’ Because I would always champion an artist.”
Here’s the whole interview on ‘The Graham Norton Show’…
2. Charity First
Sheeran is often seen wearing tartan shirts, that he then gives to shops in Suffolk to sell and raise money.
He’s also an ambassador for East Anglica’s Children’s Hospice, and the shirt he was wearing in Bridget Jones’ Baby was auctioned to raise money for the charity.
3. Very British
Ed Sheeran was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
He soon moved with his family to Framlingham in Suffolk, where the Framlingham Castle resides as well.
So he’s about as British as it gets.
4. First Tat
Sheeran’s first tattoo will make cat lovers happy: it was a paw print!
He now has over 60 different pieces and each of them has a story.
You can see many of them over at The Sun.
5. ‘Don’t’ Assume His Relationship Status
It has been long rumored that Sheeran’s hit single ‘Don’t’ is about his ex-girlfriend Ellie Goulding.
Specifically, the rumor was that she cheated on Sheeran with Niall Horan of One Direction.
Well, Goulding apparently never thought they were in a relationship. And her song ‘On My Mind’ is definitely not about Sheeran
“We’ve known each other for a few years. I think he’s a really nice guy and a brilliant musician. We’ve bumped into each other and we’ve hung out and stuff, but the thing is if I hang out with someone, it’s instantly like I’m ‘dating’ them. We were never in a relationship. My song is not about him.”
However, from Ed’s point-of-view… ‘Don’t’ IS about Goulding and Horan.
“I don’t feel it’s about anyone any more, I’m not attached to that. The moment you attach someone to a song it becomes more difficult to sing every night.”
6. His 2013 Grammy Break, Courtesy of Elton John
Elton John lobbied the Grammy Award organizers to let Sheeran perform ‘The A Team’, but they didn’t think he was big enough.
So Elton joined Sheeran on stage and the rest is Grammy’s history.
7. That Was Swift
Soon after the 2013 Grammy performance, Sheeran joined Taylor Swift on “The Red Tour.”
Ed even memorialized the tour by getting a tattoo that says, “RED”.
