9 Reasons Why Freddie Mercury Was So BOSS

Freddie Mercury, who was the lead singer of Queen, is arguably the most legendary vocalist in the history of music. Aside from his long list of talents, he’s so badass that even his memory throws shade on most people, including other rock legends.

He also got closer to Darth Vader than you ever will. Here’s more proof that you will never be as boss as Freddie:

1) His vocal range was five octaves.

FIVE. OCTAVES.

That means he could jump from a low bass F to a high soprano F with less effort than it takes you to think up your next Facebook status. He also had zero formal training. If you practiced 24/7 for your entire life, you *might* be able to squeeze out one little drop of talent in comparison to his 5-gallon bucket of born-this-way awesomeness.

2) He wrote Bohemian Rhapsody.

‘Nuff said.

3) He didn’t need to explain himself to anyone.

A lot of people questioned, and always will question, the meaning of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Freddie consistently avoided explanations, and once said, “Does it mean this, does it mean that, is all anybody wants to know. Fuck them, darling. I’ll say no more than what any decent poet would tell you if you dared ask him to analyze his work: ‘If you see it, dear, then it’s there.’”

4) He claimed he could barely read music…

…yet, in the era of electric guitar, he composed music on a grand piano and played it during concerts.

5) He could dance his ass off.

6) He had some of the most amazing outfits that rock has ever seen.

And he didn’t care what you thought of them.

7) He put hecklers in their place.

In the middle of a Queen concert, a man shouted a gay slur at Mercury. Freddie stopped, put a spotlight on the man, and said to him in front of the whole crowd, “Say it again, darling.”

To which the heckler… did not reply.

8) He loved Star Wars.

Once he even rode on Darth Vader’s shoulders at a concert for Queen’s The Game tour in 1980.

9) Even when he was deathly ill, he refused to be boring.

Just 10 days before he died, he told Queen’s manager Jim Beach, “You can do whatever you like with my image, my music, remix it, re-release it, whatever. Just never make me boring”.
