Well, this is going to be quite the debate, don’t you think?
Because you know that one person’s trash heap is another person’s paradise.
And people are also fiercely proud of where they’re from and where they live, so you never know who you’re gonna p**s off when you insult a city.
So let’s hear from AskReddit users about what they think is the worst city in America.
1. Rough place.
“My city, Stockton, California.
Finally got another serial k**ler captured a few weeks ago. Don’t get me started on the speed freak k**lers. City has a real population of around 420k, 60k are homeless. The last 3 mayors have been arrested during or after their term. City council is a farce. PD, holy s**t of s**t shows.
I will admit there are good officers, yet there’s been 2 Sergeants arrested for SA and rape in the past year. When I 1st moved here there was a bank robbery with hostages, police put 27 rounds in the hostage. Police chief admitted his guys needed more firing range time on an open mic.
Every amusement or nice attraction gets shutdown. Golfland gone, Incredible John’s gone, and so on. We’re considered the little Chicago, I believe our crime rate is on par with them. School District, holy shit what show. Every year we get a new Superintendent that either gets fired or steps down. The district apparently is close to insolvency with the state getting ready to take over.
I believe a few tens of millions in the hole. Yet most of their employees don’t get benefits. Yeah health insurance around $800 a month that’s mandatory. Have to say the Fire department is awesome asf, they put out a **t ton of fires.”
2. Keep going.
“I passed Camden, NJ on a way to a concert and we stopped at a light and a cop drove up and literally told us “just run the reds and go do not stop” and as we turned you would just see groups of people on corners waiting for a stopped car.
It was wild.”
3. Scary
“East St.Louis, stopped once for gas.
Didn’t think I was going to make it back on 55.”
4. The Deep South.
“Jackson, Mississippi.
Very high m**der rate, low education, failing infrastructure. “
5. Ouch.
“Shreveport, LA.
Buddy of mine was diagnosed with stage 4 inoperable cancer. Doctor says you got 6 months. My buddy says what should I do?
Doctor says move to Shreveport. My buddy says why? Doctor says it will be the longest 6 months of your life.”
6. In decline.
“Places like Gary, IN; Pontiac, MI; Bridgeport, CT; and Lowell, MA.
Industrial cities that lost all their jobs and experienced depopulation and rising crime.”
7. Downhill.
“Bakersfield has got to be the worst city in California, at the very least.
Some cool country music there 50 years ago, but since then…yikes.”
8. FLA.
“In my opinion, of the ones I’ve been to… Miami
Anywhere outside of the nightlife scene is absolutely dangerous.
For example, Wynwood, the art district, is LITERALLY in the middle of one of the worst possible neighborhoods. You enter or exit Wynwood from the wrong direction, don’t stop and wait at red lights.”
9. Interesting.
“Binghamton, NY was just straight-up depressing. It looked like a ghost town.
Elizabeth, NJ was sort of run-down looking but seemed like it was in better shape than Binghamton.”
10. Nothing going on.
“Charleston WV used to be so vibrant and bustling was supposed to become NYC in the mountains is now a d**d zone with a struggling infrastructure and an economy that can’t keep itself afloat.
Add on the homeless problem which makes all of downtown look like a giant skid row.”
11. Modern day ruins.
“I was shocked by how bad San Francisco was when I went there.
Human s**t and needles everywhere. Homeless people passed out with s**t covered sweat pants next to $100k g-wagons. Austin was another that was just so sad. So many homeless and so much trash.
Denver was beautiful and mostly clean but as soon as it got dark tent cities popped up. It was like a werewolf transforming. Detroit still has to be my pick. It was like an empty husk of something great. Modern day ruins.”
12. Boring.
“The worst cities are the most boring cities- the most devoid of personality.
So I’m going to say Jacksonville, Florida.”
13. Haha.
“Just visited Phoenix and felt it had the least character out of any big American city that I’ve ever visited.
It was like if Applebees was a city.”
14. Tourist trap.
“I ha**d growing up by Orlando.
For one, brick roads f**king suck, but also there’s just too many d**n tourists all the time.
The entire city’s one giant tourist trap.”
15. Run down.
“Baltimore.
One example; while driving, every stoplight seems to require an interaction with two young entrepreneurs spraying raw sewage onto your windshield with a spray bottle and then aggressively demanding money to wipe it off.”
