Now this is a story you don’t see every day, but it’s so special, we decided we had to share it with all of you.

Married couple Matthew Eledge and Elliot Dougherty were exploring their options to have children. They got quite a surprise when Eledge’s mother, Cecile, 61, offered to be the surrogate mother for them.

Here’s how it worked: Eledge supplied the sperm, Dougherty’s sister provided the egg, and mom Cecile acted as the surrogate. And daughter Uma was born to the couple on March 25, 2019!

Eledge told the Huffington Post, “Sometimes even really intelligent people hear this story and think it’s incest. We get really honest questions from really smart people like, ‘Are you scared of the genetic abnormalities?’ It’s a fine question, it’s a unique situation, but I think it’s easiest to spell it out in layman’s terms: My mother was simply the oven.”

Cecile made a great surrogate because she is in perfect health and completed all the required tests to see if she could carry a healthy baby. She said, “There was a part of me thinking, it will be a miracle if we pass every test, there is going to be something. I knew if I wasn’t going to be a healthy candidate, I would never put the baby in jeopardy. Every time I would go talk to another doctor, whether my internist or cardiologist, they looked and said ‘There’s absolutely no reason you can’t do this.'” She added, “Sixty-one is just a number; it’s how you feel and your health that was really the motivation.”

People online were definitely moved by the story.

That is quite a story! Congratulations to the entire family, including baby Uma!
