With 2018 coming to a close, here is a look back on a few fun, odd, and funny viral moments before ringing in the new year.

Tide Pod Challenge

Over the years we’ve seen the cinnamon challenge, salt and ice challenge, and in 2018 the Tide Pod challenge was born. But WHY? What are teens thinking? In my day, we watched others perform these dangerous games, like on MTV’s Jackass. I’m proud to say I took their warning seriously to never try these stunts at home.

Kylo Ren Pants

Many superfans caught the release of The Last Jedi in late 2017. But the movie wasn’t the only hit. When Kylo Ren donned his high waisted pants and shirtless, the internet went crazy.

Facebook Hoax

Did you receive a message from a friend saying, “ Hi… I actually got another friend request from you yesterday which I ignored so you may want to check your account.”

Um, yeah…someone created that original message and it spread like wildfire!

Fortnite

Fornite began in 2017 but quickly turned into a phenomenon leaving moms screaming, “No you can’t have another in-app purchase!”. Kids across the world, 40 million and growing, made this the must-play-game of the year. Peer pressure at its finest.

The Dog Blanket Challenge

What cute and curious creatures, dogs can be! So protective of their humans. The dog blanket or “fluff” challenge took over the internet and had everyone trying it, even me!

Colin Kaepernick Nike Ad

Kaepernick inspired a movement, and Nike took it to a whole new level. Mixed emotions over the ad sparked debate, but I think we can all agree on the hilarity of the memes that came after.

iHop or iHob?

With 60 years in the pancake business, iHop changed its name to iHob or the International House of Burgers. The re-branding lasted for only about a month, at which point the “B” was turned back right side up to the “P” it should’ve always been. They attempted to push it off as fake-out…but IMO, the marketing scheme didn’t pan out.

Yanni/Laurel

OMG – the madness! This viral moment divided friend and families for at least 24 hours. Cloe Feldman stumbled across the pronunciation of Laurel on a vocabulary website, and her find almost became America’s next civil war.

As stupid as 2018 has been, we’re excited to see what 2019 has in store!
