Adidas Vows to Make 11 Million Pairs of Shoes out of Ocean Plastic

This is great news – and it makes me want to buy Adidas (my favorite shoe brand) even more!

Adidas has announced that they plan to produce 11 million pairs of shoes made out of plastic pulled from the ocean in 2019. The company has partnered with Parley for the Oceans since 2015 to create footwear out of recycled ocean plastic.

Adidas produced 1 million pairs of shoes out of ocean plastic in 2017 and 5 million in 2018. The Parley shoes that Adidas makes have proven to be quite popular. One Adidas Executive Board Member said, “With Adidas products made from recycled plastic, we offer our consumers real added value beyond the look, functionality, and quality of the product, because every shoe is a small contribution to the preservation of our oceans.”
