This Elephant Mom Saying ‘Thank You’ to Rescuers Is Proof That Kindness Is a Universal Language

Indian rescuers recently saved a baby elephant that had fallen into an abandoned well and struggled for several hours to escape. Its worried family shuffled and trumpeted around at the top, impotent to help.

Eventually, a team of forest officials arrived with heavy equipment; using an excavator, they created a pathway and free the baby, which ran immediately toward its excited herd. The amazing feat of kindness took five hours, but it was totally worth it:

Once she had her baby back, the mother elephant saluted the human heroes with her long trunk.
