The diagnosis was a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of brain aneurysm that causes death in approximately 1/3 of patients.

As an actor, Clarke was terrified that she wouldn’t be able to continue pursuing her craft after these events. Six weeks later, Clarke went back to GOT and says of the experience,

“Season two would be my worst. I didn’t know what Daenerys was doing.

If I am truly being honest, every minute of every day I thought I was going to die.”

But she also disclosed that her paramedics worked hard to keep her spirits high. The says of her EMTs,

“They’d given me drugs so I was in less pain, wrapped me up like a tortilla and made me laugh the whole way to the hospital.”

Clarke was also lucky to have others to support her, such as her mother and the nurses who cared for her. She was so moved by the experiences that she became an Ambassador to the Royal College of Nurses in 2018.
