Not all plungers are made for toilets. The basic ‘cup plunger’ needs a flat surface to create suction and works best for unclogging sink and bathtub drains- but if your toilet is clogged, a ‘flange plunger’ is best because of the extra piece at the bottom (the flange) that’s designed to fit inside the curved drain of a toilet bowl.
