Earlier this year, Emilia Clarke revealed that she had two life-threatening aneurysms while filming Game of Thrones. For years, Emilia kept her health struggles a secret from fans. But now that her experiences are public knowledge, she’s using her platform for good.

Emilia started a charity, SameYou, to increase access to rehabilitative services after brain injury and stroke.

A Game of Thrones fan on Reddit started a fundraising campaign for SameYou in honor of Emilia. Over 5000 fans contributed to the campaign to raise over $130,000 in just two weeks.

After Emilia heard about the fundraiser, she posted a thank you video on Instagram.

“I’m so incredibly moved and blown away and grateful,” she said. “[The fundraising campaign] has made my day, week, month, year, decade, and I couldn’t think of a more beautiful way to wave goodbye to the Mother of Dragons than with this step towards making brain injury sufferers feel less alone.”

SameYou has officially surpassed its campaign goal.

The founder of the fundraiser, Redditor elle_ellaria, says she never expected her fundraiser to raise so much money.

“I truly thought this fundraiser peaked around 35k, so seeing it hit 100k and keep climbing just fills my heart with joy,” she told BuzzFeed News.

The fundraiser turned into a magical way to celebrate the end of Game of Thrones while also helping others.

A second fundraiser raised money in honor of Kit Harington for Mencap, a UK-based charity for learning disabilities. That fundraiser has raised over $53,000.
