Learn the Costco Cake, Wedding-Worthy Hack that Costs Just $50

Let’s just get this fact out there and out of the way – if you’ve never had a Costco cake, let me assure you that they’re delicious. Like, you could serve a Costco cake at any black tie event and people would rave and ask what bakery you used because yeah. They’re that good.

So, if you could take one of their big and relatively inexpensive but still yummy cakes and turn it into something worthy of you wedding…why wouldn’t you?

Because wedding cakes can be a bit of a gamble (yes, even if you taste-test them), and they cost a boat-load of cash. I mean, you probably forgot how much money you (or your parents) spent on a necessary item that you would never see again after that night, but I promise – it was a lot.

But if you’re looking to have an amazing wedding on a budget, Instagram user @cottagefarmhouse has your back.

“Y’all this DIY cake! It is no secret my brother is frugal, but this wedding cake took frugality to a whole new level. They bought two @costco cakes, cut them, stacked them, re-iced with buttercream icing, and covered with $10 @traderjoes flowers. Boom a $50 DIY cake!”

Full disclosure: the cake was designed and executed by one of their relatives, who also happens to be a professional pastry chef in London (Jaime Warley) who was in town fo the wedding.

“He took their idea of the cheap wedding Costco cake and threw it all together in a couple of hours at the venue the day before the wedding!”

Still, coming up with a tiered, frosted, and decorated cake suited for any type of ceremony for $50 is still a feat, if you ask me.

“Displayed on the stand I built using stuff from @hobbylobby. Beautiful on a budget!” Jessica concluded.

She’s not wrong. And even if you don’t have an international pastry chef on hand, I think you could use the concept to come up with something pretty great. Like this one:
