It’s a tale straight out of a movie.

A man in Australia was walking his dog down the street on Mother’s Day, his two daughters in tow. One of his daughters kicked something hard lying on the ground, and when she glanced down, it caught her eye.

It turned out to be a gold nugget worth at least $35,000 AUD, which is over $25,000 USD.

“I actually walked right past it but my daughter pretty much kicked it as she was walking. She then goes — dad, is this gold? I said, I think it might be,” the man told reporters.

The family took the nugget to a supermarket to weigh it. They discovered that it was 20 ounces. The man was later informed that, if sold whole, the nugget would be worth an estimated $35,000 AUD.

He plans to sell it eventually because he could certainly use the money.

“We’ve come on some tough times so it’s really good because we’ve been struggling financially. It couldn’t be better timing really,” he said.

Also, he’s getting stressed out by having such a valuable little object in his possession.

“Just having it at home, I’ve been like where do we store it? I haven’t been sleeping very well, and we think it’s best just to sell it.”

Now that the family knows there is gold in the area, they’re inspired to go back to the same spot and search for more.

FYI, the gold nugget was on the outskirts of town in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.

Just in case you’d like to go walk your dog…
