Game of Thrones has inspired countless online personality quizzes, some of which you may have even taken (I certainly have). But the vast majority of those quizzes are simply for entertainment purposes and aren’t backed by any actual science.
Thankfully, you can now find out whether you’re a Khaleesi, a Jon Snow, or one of several other characters from the show, all with the assurance that your results are backed by the work of real psychologists.
A new quiz from TIME was designed by psychologists to match you with a Game of Thrones character and, with your consent, your answers will actually help the psychologists better understand how people respond to ethical dilemmas.
The quiz is part of TIME’s ongoing efforts to legitimize the online quiz format. Psychologists first asked people to answer questions as they thought characters from Game of Thrones would. These questions measured qualities such as leadership and self-esteem.
The researchers eventually compiled over 1,700 completed quizzes from 500+ fans, and used the results to assign five basic character/personality types: Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Tyrion Lannister, or Cersei Lannister.
You can take the quiz for yourself right here. At the start of the quiz, you’ll see an option to anonymously share your answers with the psychologists who designed the test so they can continue to refine the results. This is totally optional, and if you’re uncomfortable with sharing your data you are free to opt out while still doing the quiz and getting your results.
According to its creators, the quiz “is concerned with understanding how people view different ethical dilemmas and scenarios. Donating your data will greatly help us to explore this question.”
